History

Since its inception, the Department of Environmental Management and Control has achieved numerous milestones, reflecting our commitment to academic excellence and sustainable development:

  1. Establishment of the Department: The department was established in the 2001/2002 academic session.
  2. Commencement of B.Sc. Programme: In the 2005/2006 academic session, we launched a comprehensive five-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) programme in Environmental Management and Control.
  3. Introduction of Postgraduate Programmes: In the 2009/2010 academic session, we expanded our academic offerings to include postgraduate programmes.
  4. Separation of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences: The faculty was formally separated in the 2011/2012 academic session, enhancing our focus on environmental sciences.
  5. Continuous Accreditation: Our department has maintained full accreditation since its inception, ensuring the highest standards of education and training.
  6. Graduation of Postgraduate Students: We have successfully graduated students across all our postgraduate programmes, including PGD, MSc, and PhD.

Admission Requirements and Procedures

 

We offer a range of programmes to cater to different academic backgrounds and career aspirations. Our admission requirements and procedures ensure that we attract dedicated and capable students committed to environmental management:

 

Undergraduate Admissions

 

UTME Candidates

 

– Candidates must possess SSCE or GCE O/L with credit levels in at least five subjects, including Mathematics, English Language, Chemistry, and two others.

– Candidates must have a satisfactory performance in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

 

Direct Entry Candidates

– Candidates must fulfil SSCE/GCE O/L requirements and possess at least two “A” level passes or equivalent.

– OND/HND holders in relevant fields may be admitted into the 200-level of the programme.

 

Postgraduate Admissions

 

Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)

 

– Candidates must possess a minimum of a pass in HND in allied courses or a Third Class Degree in a related department, with five credits in WAEC, including English, Mathematics, and Chemistry.

 

Master of Science (M.Sc.)

 

– Candidates must possess five credits in WAEC, including English, Mathematics, and Chemistry.

– Candidates must have a B.Sc. in Environmental Management or a related course with a minimum of 3.0 CGPA, or a PGD in Environmental Management or a related field.

 

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

 

– Candidates must possess five credits in WAEC, including English, Mathematics, and Chemistry.

– Candidates must have an MSc in Environmental Management or a related field with a CGPA of at least 3.0.

 

Admission Deferment, Transfer, and Registration Procedures

 

– Students may defer admission or transfer following university regulations.

– Registration is the responsibility of the student’s parent department and must be completed within designated periods.
